Centerbeam

Centerbeam
A favorite among shippers and railroads alike, the centerbeam primarily transports wood building products such as dimensional lumber (2x4's, 2x6's, etc.) and 4x8 sheets of plywood, particle board, and wallboard.  Interestingly, when first developed in the late 1960's, the car's intended purpose was to carry pipe, steel tubes and girders, and those loads are still carried on centerbeams, but in relatively small quantities.  TTX is a leader in providing centerbeam capacity to the industry and owns the largest fleet in North America.  Most cars are 73-ft long and are either 100 or 110-ton capacity.
